On March 27th 2006, Dennis Donahue (44) died of a sudden massive heart attack
while at home leaving behind his wife and three children. His family, hoping to bring
something positive from this tragic loss began to create a 5k which would serve a dual
purpose; Preserving Dennis Donahue’s legacy, and raising money for a new track at
Evergreen High school. The Idea to raise funds for an all weather track came to Karen
Donahue and Kathie Brock after reviewing the track schedule and finding that every
meet was away at another school. Both Kathie and Karen found this fact frustrating
since they both had children who participated in track and found it hard to make it to so
many away games. From this common frustration, the Dennis Donahue Memorial 5k
was born under the name Trot for a Track. The first race was held on August 27th,
2006 with the help of several generous sponsors, and met with resounding success.
With close to five hundred participants the race raised almost twenty-six thousand
dollars for the new track. The hope of the dedicated supporters of the 5k is to raise
enough money not only to build a new track and service it, but to also raise health
awareness. With these goals in mind it is hoped that the fourth annual Trot For a Track
will be as successful as the first three have been.

5K Run/ Walk

Thank you so much to every walker, runner, spectator, contributor, sponsor and
volunteer of Trot for a Track. The support  over the last few years of this community
has been incredible and I'm so grateful and proud to be apart of it.  The experience
has been great therapy and it is bittersweet that it is over, but the track is in place
and is an awesome facility.  We as a community should be very proud of what we
have.  Thank you all again for your generosity and support.

Sincerely,
Karen Donahue
